The project redesigns the rest area of the elderly healthcare house "La Piccola Casa del Rifugio", in Milano. The intervention is based on the visual connection between spaces and the relationship with the greenery outside. The existing space expands due to the addition of an external see-through pavilion, which is pushing the visitors towards the outside creating a sort of winter cover garden. The new building is light and transparent due to the choice of a steel and wood structure with big windows. The use of wooden bookshelves in between the pillars creates a friendly ambience. Furthermore the existing space has been rationalized thanks to a furnished wall covering the vending machines. The designers have realized a domestic and relaxing ambience; they worked on light quality, furniture position and wall paper with natural texture. The design demolished parts of the existing walls in order to connect the outdoor café with the winter garden, creating a natural flow of people.
